Admission Policy

Admission Requirements

Suria International Schools (Suria) operates on an open admissions system, which means that we accept new students throughout the year. All applications for admission are given equal status by the school and no child is excluded based on nationality, culture, religious beliefs, or academic ability. Suria shall consider for admission any student who is at least six years old and not older than eighteen years old (for Year 11) on January 1st of any academic year. We are open to all students whose educational needs can be met within the provision of the schools.

Admission into a Suria and placement in classes, providing space is available, is based on successful completion of all application procedures, submission of required documentation and successful completion of an admissions test (appropriate to the year/form level).

Parents will need to attach the application fee upon filling the Application for Admission Form and to schedule a mutually consented assessment date and time.

After assessment (with the approval of the School Principal), parents will be informed of the school’s decision to offer a place at Suria; a letter of offer will be issued to parents.

Having been given an offer of a place, the family should confirm acceptance and pay the Registration Fee, Security Deposit (interest free) and the Term Fees due. Upon receipt, the student’s place will be secured.

Admissions Testing

We are non-selective and use the Cognitive Abilities Test as a means of assessing potential, to best decide whether our schools will be able to meet a student’s educational needs.

Physical or online tests are taken during the assessment period and to be considered for a place, prospective students will be expected to demonstrate they have at least average potential in these tests. Students will sit the test applicable to the year group appropriate for their age. Parents are not to view the materials before or after the test. All test papers are properties of the school and are confidential.

Year 1 assess a student’s ability to reason with and manipulate different types of material through a series of verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial ability tasks. Students may be invited into the school for an additional interview and/or asked to provide further evidence of their aptitude in areas such as English Language. A trial class of an hour or more will be extended to the test before a final decision is made.

There are three possible outcomes:

Successful

A place is offered at the school.

Not Ready Yet

The family will be notified within 7 working days, to allow for alternative arrangement to be made. Students who fall into this category may reapply when they are ready.

Conditional

A place is offered on a conditional basis with specific terms and conditions set, including a review date, mutually agreed by both the school and parents.

Re-Admission of Students

  • Suria shall not accept any student who was asked to leave Suria or another school for behavioral reasons.
  • There will be 50% re-admission fees to be paid for re-entry of Suria students within 12 months of time. After that period, a full-current admission fee is payable.

Late Admission

  • Students will not be offered a place in the final year of the IGCSE course (Year 11) unless they have been studying the same course in a similar institution. Students may be invited into the school for an additional interview and/or asked to provide further evidence of their aptitude in study areas before a final decision is made.
  • Students applying for places in Key Stage 4 (Year 10 & Year 11) will be required to select IGCSE subjects as per the school’s option blocks.

Mid-Year Admissions

  • Students may apply at any time of the year following the normal application procedures.
  • Sometimes students may need mid-year admittance. In such cases, we will admit the student if they have passed the required placement tests, submitted completed applications and if places are available.
  • If places become vacant during the year, we will identify and contact parents on the waiting list.

Acceptance of Records from Other Schools

  • Records (must be in English) carry the official logo and signature of the school the student attended.
  • The records are provided by a school either recognised by an accrediting agency or a governmental body.
  • The records are complete in terms of information provided for the entire previous year in which the student attended school.

Special Needs and Learning Support Students

  • We will only admit students with special and/or learning support needs if the student is able to access the curriculum on offer with limited assistance. Each case will be considered on an individual basis.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

  • Support will be provided in all our school (with or without a fee) wherever possible, and students will be monitored in terms of their progress in English. Parents are expected to support the development of English outside of the school.

Return of Admissions Fees

  • Suria will not refund any fees paid for admissions application and testing.

Admission Rejected

  • It is determined that the student would not benefit educationally from attending the school.
  • The school cannot meet the special educational needs of the student.
  • The school has no space within a class or year group.
  • The student has a negative scholastic / behavioral record and is deemed too likely to have a negative impact on the Suria community.
  • Required documents and agreements are not provided and signed by parents or guardians.
